FOOD

Madurai Virundhu

39° 49.860' N 86° 14.160' W

Authentic Tamil Nadu cuisine on the west side. The Thalappakatti biryani and mutton chukka are spicy, flavorful, and remind you of home.

Milktooth

39° 45.345' N 86° 08.567' W

A brunch place in a former garage. The menu changes constantly but the Dutch baby pancakes are a staple. Expect a wait.

Yats

39° 50.123' N 86° 08.901' W

Chili cheese etouffee served fast and cheap. No waiters, just a chalkboard menu. The bread with cajun butter is addictive.

2

COFFEE

Amberson Coffee

39° 46.567' N 86° 08.234' W

Hyper-modern, sustainable coffee. They serve drinks in glass jars. The date latte is subtle and perfect.

Calvin Fletcher's

39° 45.234' N 86° 08.456' W

The community living room of Fletcher Place. Profits go to charity. Good coffee, better vibes.

3

HIDDEN

City Market Catacombs

39° 46.123' N 86° 09.234' W

Underground ruins of a burnt-down hall beneath the market. Brick arches and dirt floors. Tours are rare but worth it.

Idle Park

39° 45.012' N 86° 08.345' W

A tiny park wedged between highway interchanges. You sit in lawn chairs and watch the traffic rush by. Strangely meditative.

4

NATURE

Crown Hill Cemetery

39° 49.234' N 86° 10.123' W

The highest point in the city. The view of the skyline from James Whitcomb Riley’s tomb is the best in town.

Canal Walk

39° 46.456' N 86° 10.012' W

It can get touristy, but an evening walk here, passing under the bridges and by the museums, is beautiful.

5

QUIRKY

Heidelberg Haus

39° 43.567' N 86° 01.234' W

A German bakery and gift shop that feels stuck in time. Garden gnomes, cuckoo clocks, and incredible pastries.
