When I was 14, my English teacher told me I should not write in the passive voice.
That advice has stayed with me ever since. Once you see it, you start seeing it everywhere, not just in bad school essays, but in corporate writing, public statements, soft evasions, and all the little ways language tries to avoid owning a point directly.
I found this Tom Gauld piece both funny and useful for exactly that reason. It is a nice way of showing other people, including kids, how differently the same thing can be written depending on the voice it takes.
As someone pointed out in the comments, he could probably have added an AI voice too. But then he could also have added LinkedIn voice, and plenty more besides, forever.
